At Forged by Ethan, every tool, blade, axe, and nail I create is a testament to my artisan craftsmanship. I love the idea of keeping traditional work alive by transforming old, rusty steel into beautiful handmade goods alongside brand new, unmolested steel. This is the only job I have held in my life that brings me pure exalted joy, and it's part of my passion to reflect that dedication in my work, crafted with passion.
Passion always seemed like a fickle term to me. I see others have the spark of a passion and it ignites their life in an instant, for some it seems as if they are born with it, for others it takes a lifetime. For me I found my passion of fire and steel at 31 years old.
My father has always puzzled me with his perfectionism. For some reason, I had a hard time relating for the longest time. He always seemed to be unnaturally good at everything he touched. I can remember when I was about 8, watching my dad on his tractor grading the yard after dropping trees for weeks on end around the house he built and hearing our house phone ring. It was his office calling with the servers going down and no one knew how to save the servers the company so desperately relied on. As if it happened yesterday, I stood there in complete astonishment as I watched my father switch gears seamlessly from moving the earth to walking someone through IT corrections I to this day do not grasp. That type of focus and ability I am beyond thankful to have grown up with. I am a grown man with a family of my own, but I will never grow past the phase of "let me call my dad". It just so happens now I get the "let me call Ethan" phone calls too. This has been one of the most rewarding aspects of growing up with such an accomplished father, that now I have some semblance of knowledge that I can lend to him.
Photo on the right is helping my dad replacing steps on his house, doing what I can to pay back everything he has embodied and raised me with.
My yearning for a passion comes from the passion that my father has lived his entire life with. I have undoubtedly found mine.
I pride myself on the little details. Something as "simple" as the size of your hand vs size of the handle on a knife can make it useless or the best knife you have ever known. I pride myself on the latter.
